eimü Dry-Guard is an external teat sealer to protect udder health during the critical early and late stages of the dry period. By coating the teats and sealing the teat canal from the outside, the penetration of udder pathogens is prevented. eimü Dry-Dip can be used alone or in combination with any type of dry stall. The breathable polymer protective film forms a hermetic barrier for up to 7 days.On the one hand, application is recommended directly for dry setting, so that additional protection is provided until the natural keratin plug is formed. On the other hand, eimü Dry-Dip can be used before calving, when milk production has resumed and teat closure is no longer guaranteed. In this case, two applications should be made 14 to 10 and 7 to 5 days before calving. The application is made with a disposable dip cup (eimü Dry-Dip Cups).1 liter of eimü Dry-Dip is sufficient for about 100 applications. What is dry setting?
Dry off means a temporary cessation of lactation.
During the time when the cow is not producing milk, the udder can recover and prepare for a new lactation:
- Udder inflammation can heal
- Udder tissue can regenerate
- Loss of performance can be prevented
A dry period of at least 30 days is recommended, as otherwise udder health problems may occur. An extended dry period (+ 50 days) is particularly advisable for heifers.
However, dry periods of less than 30 days can cause problems with udder health and are associated with significant performance losses, especially in heifers. These even benefit from an extended dry period (> 50 days).

Risks during the drying process
Environmentally associated pathogens can lead to new infections of the udder at the beginning of the dry period.
The risk is highest at the beginning of the dry period or in the period immediately before or after calving. The infection during the dry period often only leads to an udder disease at the beginning of the subsequent lactation phase.
According to studies, up to 60 % of clinical mastitis in early lactation results from the dry period.
To minimise the risk of infection of the udder during the dry period, teat sealants are used.
Teat sealant to prevent infections during the dry period
Teat sealants prevent pathogens from entering the teat canal at the beginning of the dry period. This is because the teat canal is widened due to the excess milk and is therefore particularly susceptible to infections. In some cases, the body's own protective keratin plug is not formed sufficiently or not at all, so that the teat canal is unsealed and pathogens can penetrate more easily.
It is also recommended to additionally seal the teats when using antibiotics!

The eimü® drying concept without the use of antibiotics
The eimü® dry standing concept was developed to provide ideal support for selective dry standing.
For this purpose, it is important to know the MLP data of the entire herd in detail and to monitor udder health and carry out appropriate udder health management individually for each cow.
