After milking, the teat canal stays open for some time. This is exactly when mastitis pathogens enter the udder most easily. A teat dip or teat spray applied right after milking disinfects the teat and cares for the teat skin.
eimü offers teat disinfection based on four active ingredients:
- Iodine: Doppeldip Iodine and Dermastitis-Blocker (both licensed veterinary medicinal products), Doppel-Film-Dip, DoppelProtect, Hygiena Dip & Spray and the Film-Dip concentrate
- Chlorhexidine: Chlorhexidin-Film-Dip and Chlorhexidin Dip & Spray PP, free of iodine and active chlorine
- Chlorine dioxide: Gold-Dip and Gold-Spray, base and activator are mixed fresh
- Lactic acid: Lactral-Film-Dip and Lactral-Spray, which strengthen the skin microbiome of the teat
Film dips form a protective film on the teat. They provide safety under high pathogen pressure and support the natural skin barrier, for example during heat stress. Sprays can be applied with a sprayer or in a milking robot. Products suitable for automatic milking systems are listed under milking robots (AMS), all teat dips with the eco seal for organic farms under organic dairy farming.
Frequently asked questions
Dip or spray? Dipping covers the teat completely. Spraying is faster and standard in milking robots. Many eimü products do both, for example Hygiena Dip & Spray.
How much teat dip do I need? Depending on the product, 3 to 6 kg per cow per year. The exact consumption is listed under properties for each product.
Are there teat dips without iodine? Yes: the chlorhexidine products, the Gold products based on chlorine dioxide and the Lactral products based on lactic acid.
